Uganda Cranes suffers defeat to Niger

Uganda Cranes fell short of exaltation to Niger in an international friendly game played in West Africa at Stade General Seyni Kountche.

The defeat Uganda Cranes endured becomes the second consecutive downfall the East African side has suffered in the two build up matches within a space of three days.

Coach Sebastien Desabre’s side lost to CAR by a goal to nil on Wednesday but their hope to bounce back on Saturday remained stale as Nicolas Wadada’s late goal did no harm to Francois Zahoui side.

Although Niger who are 109th on FIFA’s updated ranking beat Uganda Cranes who are 74th on the same ranking 2-1, the coach of Uganda Cranes remained positive about the future games.

According to Desabre, the conditions under which they [Cranes] faced Niger were not favorable. The optimistic French tactician noted he isn’t afraid of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers which will start in September.

“It’s difficult to play with me because we set the content of the team but the conditions are very poor. I’m very sad for the football today because the first time of my life I saw one offside on the goal kick, but we now need to stay focused on our team. I think today it’s impossible to win this game because the condition is very poor. ”

I am sad and disappointed in Farouk [Miya] because he had a very good chance to draw. However to draw in this condition is not easy but I’m sad for him because he deserved to score. And I’m not afraid for September or October. I know the level of my team, the objective we have in the next step.

Since his appointment on 27th December 2017, the former Ismaily Football Club coach has stood on the touchline to guide Uganda Cranes 9 times.

Amongst which he has only registered one win in the encounter with Sao Tome and Principe. Lost four times and drawn four.

In the quest to make it to AFCON 2019, Uganda Cranes will play Tanzania and Lesotho on 9th September and 10th October respectively at Namboole before visiting Lesotho on 13th October and hosting Cape Verde on 16th November this year.

The Cranes will conclude their campaign next year in March 22nd with the match against Tanzania.
