After failing to find the winning goal for 40 minutes, Manchester United seemed to be heading to a draw and the Fellaini goal was deemed to have come by luck according to Jose Mourinho.

“I think if it was a draw it wouldn’t be unfair. Arsenal did a good game, they defended well, but we were the team that tried to win that created a few more chances. But that is normal. We were a bit lucky to score, but we were stronger in the last 20 minutes.”

Mourinho also revealed Fellaini whose future has been unclear showed interest to stay by the fact he grabbed the crest.

“I think so. I think a player that grabs the crest after scoring is telling clearly that he wants to stay. I want him to stay, the club wants him to stay, I think he will stay, it is nearly there.

The visitors Arsenal following the stunning equalizer couldn’t possess but retreated to defend. The time Manchester United spent the final third only signaled it was a matter of time that the hosts would grab the winning goal.

In the eight changes Arsene Wenger made due to focus on return leg of Europa against Atletico Madrid on Thursday, a few players such as Maitland-Niles were impressive.

“It is so unfortunate to fight so hard and then to go down so late in the game. Words can’t describe how we feel right now and apologies to the fans to let them down late on. I love playing centre midfield and to do that for Arsenal at Manchester United in the Premier League is a dream come true. I guess it was a bit nerve-racking for the lads without a full squad, but we knew we had to give the manager a proper send-off and do our best.”

The defeat means Arsenal is the only team in top four leagues in England that has not registered a win this year. The Gunners are 6th on the table with 57 points in 35 games.
