Masaka – The phrase ‘When two elephants fight, the grass suffers’ was exactly witnessed in Masaka recreational ground when the two Titanic sides in the Ugandan football, Villa and KCCA battled for top place yesterday on a waterlogged pitch.
League’s Top scorer Geofrey Sserunkuma gave the away lead three minutes into second half after a rebound taking his goal tally to 17. Brian Majwega dribbled past opponent defenders and made a goal attempt punched by Samson Kirya only to find goal love Sserunkuma who tapped it in.
SC Villa got a penalty at 72’ after Match day captain Benjamin Ochan fouled Farouk Musisi in the box. Emmanuel Okwi successfully converted the spot kick by sending Ochan in the wrong way as the ball took the right way.
Although the Jogoos had a better display in the first half, the results were not any better as attempts by Okwi and Dennis Rukundu were saved by Ochan. Whereas in the second half, Sserunkuma and Timothy Awany’s headers were deprived from going through to the net by Samson Kirya.
As a result of the scores, KCCA and Villa still have equal number of points but the Kasasiro boys lead with goal difference and three games at hand. Elsewhere Onduparaka failed to revenge against their Uganda cup tormentors as the two settled for a goalless draw in the AUPL.
The log shows The Caterpillar’s seating on 6th place with 38 points after 25 games played as Sadolin Paints 14th with 26 points and 26 games played. In Jinja, Oromchan’s brace earned three points for 10th place Bul in their game against 15th place Lweza which got their only goal through Owen Kasule.
