Polish striker Lewandowski scored a hatrick as Bayern ruthlessly destroyed Augsburg in a six goal thriller. Seventeen minutes after kick off Lewandowski scored the opener, nineteen minutes later Thomas Muller notched the second. Just ten minutes into the second half, Lewandowski grabbed his brace as Thiago Alcantara changed the score figures to four goals seven minutes later.
Lewandowski completed his hatrick by the 79th’ whereas Muller’s brace came in the 80th’. Struggling side FC Augsburg which is seated 16th on the Bundesliga table looked feeble and below par as the Table leaders comfortable scored all their six goals. Carlos Ancelotti believed Lewandowski is best at scoring many goals in a single match.
According to the Italian tactician, it was not a surprise that the 28 – year – old striker was able to get all those goals since in record he has scored up to five goals in nine minutes. “Lewandowski did what he normally does. He scored three times and set up two more – what more can I say about him?” Said Ancelotti. He as well admitted being happy to have a striker who scores often.
Meanwhile Augsburg coach Manuel Baum whose team is a relegation candidate said they pondered a lot before the match, they knew they would need a very good day. In his own words, Baum added, “we turned in a reasonably decent display in the first half. We were strong in the one – on – ones, but lacked vigour in attack. We weren’t solid in defense in the second half. It’s a bitter result for us.”
The fifth straight win for Bayern Munich puts them at the top of the Bundesliga table with 13 points clear ahead of second place RB Leipzig as Augsburg is left in the red line relegation zone. Bayern face Hoffenheim on Tuesday as FC Augsburg hosts Ingolstadt on Wednesday.
