Sserunkuma notched twice for Vipers to beat Mbarara City FC and climb on top of the Azam Uganda Premier League table.
It took 24 minutes for the former Express FC forward to register a brace to his name. Sserunkuma first scored at the 11th minute off Ssekisambu’s assist before taking advantage of careless defensive display by the opponent to double the home lead 13 minutes later.
Dan Sserunkuma could have had his name appear thrice on the score sheet besides registering his first hat trick for the Kitende based side if only his 85th minute penalty was successful.
Nevertheless, two goals on Mbarara City FC hoist his tally to nine making him the top scorer of the league for now, with a goal better than team mate Milton Karisa.
The win is 10th of the season for Miguel De costa’s side and the fifth consecutive one ever since the 2-1 home defeat to URA FC on 28th November 2017.
With 35 points now, Vipers seats a head of SC Villa and KCCA FC who are second and third with 33 and 32 points respectively, although the Jogoos have a match at hand whereas Mike Mutebi’s side have two games at hand.
Mbarara City FC on the other side was saved by their goal keeper Muhammad Ssekeba from conceding more goals as he stopped threatening shots from Erisa Ssekisambu, and an early direct Tom Masiko free kick from becoming goals.
The defeat is fifth the Ankole Lions have faced in the season. The lose to Vipers also means, the Western Uganda team has not won any premier league fixture in their last three games.
Mbarara City FC vacates the 9th position for winning Bright Stars who frustrated Express FC in a 2-1 victory at the Champions Stadium, Matugga Mwerere with the help of Nelson Sekatuka’s two goals.
