Uganda beat Zambia 2-0 in the second group A of the match day 1 of COSAFA U-20 Youth Championship played at the Arthur David Stadium, Kitwe.
The Hippos Captain Muhammad Shaban scored two goals before being voted the man of the match at the end of the 90 minutes.
The 19-year-old scored the opener at the 7th minutes of the second half off Steven Mukwala’s assist before the former Onduparaka striker completed a brace at 56th minutes.
Goal keepers Saidi Keni played a long pass into the opponent’s territory for the swift striker to take advantage. And indeed the KCCA striker capitalized on the chance as he put the ball over Zambia keeper into the net.
Zambia could have taken the first lead if not for the grace of the woodwork. Lameck Banda’s attempt following Captain Prince Mumba shot at the goal post thwarted by Said Keni.
Shaban Muhammad who was voted man of the match could have scored a hatrick if not for the lines man’s decision to declare him off side.
Uganda tops the Group A table with a superior goal difference a head second place Malawi who beat Swaziland 3-2.
Whereas in group B fixtures another guests Egypt beat Mozambique a goal to nil, courtesy of Hussein Abdelkader’s lone goal. Group B second fixture will be between South Africa and Mauritius on Thursday [Today] at the Nkana Stadium.
