Monreal and Iwobi notched at each of the halves respectively for Arsenal to maintain the pace of winning streak set by English Premier League top teams.
Monreal who last scored a goal for Arsenal in the English Premier League in March 2013 scored his second league goal for the home side as they took charge of the game at 16 minutes.
The defender chest the ball down and shot into the net after Shkodran Mustafi’s shot was cleared off the line before Nigerian winger Alex Iwobi doubled their lead in the second half.
Alexis Sanchez feint to shoot as he played a masked backheel to unmarked Iwobi who finished past Mat Ryann and into the net at the 56 minutes.
Meanwhile Brighton had a chance to level scores at the 23 minutes. In a counter attack state, Izzy Brown found Jose Izquierdo on the left, he draft past Arsenal players passed to Davy Propper and won a free kick. Free kick was rolled to Solly March who smashed a 20 yards shot against the post.
Monreal told BT sports how lucky he was to have scored the opening goal given the fact that they were aware of the difficulty expected in the game.
“I was lucky to score today. We knew it would be a difficult game. They defended with a lot of players. I was lucky to be there and get my second goal for Arsenal.” Said Monreal
At the same time Alexi Iwobi didn’t think Alexis Sanchez would find him with the pass. The 21-year-old player admitted Sanchez is capable of doing anything.
“It was a great team play. I didn’t think Alexis would find me but it shows the skill he has. He is capable of doing anything. To have eyes in the back of his head and back-heel to me was amazing.”
Arsenal climbs 5th on the table temporarily with 13 points as a defeat Newcastle could suffer to 7th place Liverpool will automatically push the gunner to six.
Arsene Wenger and his boys will be at Vicarage Road to play their next match against Watford 6th place Watford.
Brighton is 14th on the table with seven points and the Seagulls will play their next fixture against Ronald Koeman’s Everton which is currently 6th on the table with 7 points.
