Basena the interim coach of Uganda cranes who replaced well branded former coach Micho warned the Cranes of complacency.
Unexpectedly the cranes beat Egypt in a game in which the home side dominated to earn their first win against the Pharaoh in five decades.
As a result excitement could take over anyone’s heart hence Basena is aware and told the cranes to not be carried away of the win. In a post-match press conference, he explained a lot and below are his own words;
“It is sweet as it lasts, the game was quite difficult we encountered numerous situations where we were struggling little bit. But this was due to the fact that a number of players have just started the season, some of them are yet to start a season like those ones in Uganda, others who are there (abroad) are yet to start preseason and it was a little bit difficult to get the much sharpness. My only appeal goes to my players that we need to quit and seat down, not to get excited and get carried away when we have two three days to go and play against now wounded Egyptian side.”
Meanwhile the goal scorer Emmanuel Okwi responded that he won’t be carried away by his performance except he looks forward to doing greater things as he helps the team go forward.
“…..it is always nice to score goals and I believe that, I won’t be carried away with this but I will only work harder to ensure that I perform even much better in the upcoming games. I also want to make sure that the team goes forward because it’s not only about me but it’s about the team and if I can give in my 100%, I will always do that.” Said Okwi
However the coach for Egypt blamed the defeat on pitch standard nevertheless Uganda was considered winners. Egypt hosts Moses Basena’s boys on 5th Sept in Alexandria stadium, Alexandria – Egypt.
