Neymar is believed to have requested a transfer so as to dodge being under Lionel Messi’s shadow in every way including the shirt number.
Neymar’s arrival at Barcelona four years ago was never a regret because the forward won one Champions League, two La Liga titles and three Copas del Rey, one FIFA Club World Cup and one Spanish Super Cup.
Besides he scored 105 goals across all competitions, however it’s reportedly said Neymar could still have been unhappy because he didn’t get his preferred shirt number he wears for Brazil.
True from Santos he wore 10 but a few section of people think it’s about the shirt number, including PSG attacking mid-fielder Javier Pastore who clearly stated he is offering his own shirt number as a welcome gift to the Brazilian.
The Argentine wrote in French language on his Twitter handle and if loosely translated, in his own words this is what he meant;
“I want to offer my number to Neymar as a welcome gift. I want him to feel comfortable and happy from day one.”
The PSG play maker also added that;
“As the first one here, I want to offer all the support necessary so we can go on and win the Champions League. The number isn’t a big deal, but it meant a lot for me to wear it and now I want to welcome Neymar with this small gesture.”
He was however assured of his position at the club much as the club might need to off load several others players due to the financial implications the signing of Neymar could cause.
It’s reportedly said Pastore revealed his idea of giving out the shirt number to the club’s sporting director Antero Henrique and President Nasser Al Khelaifi.
Although According to Neymar, his attraction to PSG is due to the Club’s ambitious spirit of playing the game. Neymar completed his transfer to the French Club yesterday after Barcelona accepted the €222m required inspite of Laliga’s refusal.
