Nigerian international retired footballer Austin Jay Jay Okocha after years of idleness has finally found something to keep busy. The former Bolton Wonderers midfielder made his debut in golf in the Barclays Pro – Am open Challenge in Kenya on Wednesday.
Okocha who was once English Premier League Cult hero because of his phenomenal skills of football last appeared on the green grass nine years ago. This week, his discovery of Golf ability gives opportunity for his fanatics to watch him in another kind of green ground though different game.
The 43 – year – old displayed football kick up skills on the golf ball with 17 kick ups reviving old memories of his glory. According to him, golf fun but not as he thought. “I am enjoying every bit of it – it’s not as easy as I thought.”
In his football career, the former PSG player collected Olympic gold medal with the national team in 1996 at the Atlanta Games, before won African Cup of Nations in 1994, and also voted African Player of year twice.
Besides being named by Pele in his FIFA 100, a list of the 125 best living footballers, Okocha’s times at Bolton wonderers was the best in his career as he exhibited skills that fouled opponents and made the game fascinating.
The Nigerian is understood to have visited the East African country for a Readytowork Programme where he spoke to University students, but also had opportunity to play Golf. The Barclays Kenya Open Pro – Am begins on Thursday 24th March 2017 and the winner will be rewarded with £190,000 price and chance to participate on the European tour.
