Xabi Alonso Olano Set To Retire

Alonso declared his will to retire from the world’s most entertaining game by the end of the season when his contract expires. On social media platform ‘twitter’ the Spanish retired player wrote, “lived it, loved it. Farewell beautiful game.” And on Bayern TV he said, “It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but I believe it’s the right time. I always thought it would be better to quit sooner rather than later. I still feel good, but I believe this is the right moment.”

The 35 years old midfielder was born in Tolosa, Spain, and started his football career in Real Socieded from 2000 – 2004 where he made 114 appearances and scored 9 goals. Joined liver Pool FC in 2004 and the same season lifted Champions league. In 2005 lifted UEFA Super Cup, 2005 – 06 FA Cup, and 2006 FA Community Shield. He became a Real Madrid player in 2009 and lifted La Liga in 2011 – 12, Copa Del Ray in 2010 – 11, 2013 – 14, Super Copa de Espana in 2012, UEFA Champions League in 2013 – 14.

Bayern Munich bought Xabi for undisclosed fee in 2014 and that same season won Bundesliga. Alonso also won the same league with Bayern in 2015 – 16, won DFB – Pokal in 2015 – 16, DFL – Supercup in 2016.  With the national team Spain, Xabi Alonso made his debut in 2004, won the UEFA European championship in 2008 and 12, world cup in 2010. He last appeared in the national shirt in 2012 world cup after 114 caps and 16 goals.
