The AUPL defending champions KCCA FC’s battle in the CAF Champions League round of 32 leg 1 of 2 against African Champions Mamelodi ended up unwell for the Ugandan side. At the Lucas Moripe Stadium, home side Mamelodi scored two vital goals within seven minutes but later on KCCA grabbed an away goal which could help in the return leg.
Bangaly Soumahoro scored the first goal and Ricardo Nascimento scored the second with a penalty as Leonardo Castro’s header was cancelled. 33 years old Veteran striker Geofrey Sserunkuma grabbed an away goal for the visitors making the scores 2 – 1. According to Coach Pitso Mosimane, they blame themselves for not scoring good margin goals.
In an interview done with Super Sports TV, Mosimane said, “We played against a very good team, they are organized and they play football, we let ourselves down. We should have not allowed the goal. But we still won the game and we will go and fight in Uganda. We have put ourselves in this situation, so we should not complain.”
He also was of the view that, Castro’s goal was clear and shouldn’t have been cancelled. Many Downs fans online have little hope in the African champions because the last season, their breakthrough to the next stage was by disqualification of other teams due to some reasons. However the return leg will be played between the two teams next week on Saturday in KCCA’s home ground Philip Omondi Stadium, Kampala and Downs is expected to prove critics wrong.
